Story

Thanks for visiting the Ready Home For Home Rehabilitation Fund JustGiving page and reading all about a very brave little girl called Eve.

Following an unexplained bleed in her brain in 2011, little Eve Anderson, now aged 9, was left with a form of ‘locked in’ syndrome. Whilst being aware of what’s going on around her, she is unable to speak and has extremely limited movement.

Eve is just one of, on average, ten children a year treated in Newcastle upon Tyne's 'Great North Children's Hospital' at the RVI with very rare and extremely complex neurological disorders that often mean the child is a hospital 'in-patient' for many months.

When Eve, and children like her, are discharged from hospital, their families are often faced with a range of expensive and complex needs which are important to aid their recovery and encourage social contact.

The transition between hospital and home is rarely straight forward and can require extensive and costly re-adjustment for the family before all is in place for a safe discharge. The requirements vary with each individual case, but Eve's tragic experience has highlighed the gap existing in the transition between being in an acute hospital setting and being back home in the community.

The Ready for Home Rehabilitation Fund is designed to bridge that gap and will be administered by the Newcastle Healthcare Charity (Reg Charity No 502473).

Now professional musicians Tony Grey and Leon Hughes have teamed up with a very special group of Eve’s friends from Northumberland known as 'Eve's Army' to record a pop song.  A 'Song for Eve' will help raise awareness of the Ready for Home Rehabilitation Fund which will help Eve and other children like her in their transition from hospital to home.
