Actual Channel Relay · 3 September 2009

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

In early September a relay team of Aspire swimmers (two with spinal cord injuries) is going to swim the English Channel. The swim is across 22 miles of cold, dirty water with all sorts of things floating around  – not to mention tankers and ferries! You don't even get to buy Duty Free at the other end as you are stright back on the support boat to England.

Every day four people are told they may never walk again due to spinal cord injury.  Aspire is there to offer support for people with spinal cord injury through a variety of practically based projects.  These projects include accessible housing, IT training and a grant giving fund to buy essential equipment to help people lead an independent life.

Thank you so much for your support, it is much appreciated.
