On Saturday 7th May 2011 we will be abseiling down the 469 ft tower at Guy's Hospital to raise money for the renal unit at the amazing Evelina Children's Hospital.

Our lovely boy Henry was born back in February 2010 with a rare condition called Posterior Urethral Valves which effects only 1 in 8000 boys. He has had two surgeries to correct these valves but unfortunately they have already had devastating effects leaving him with severe kidney and bladder damage. He has one functioning kidney which works at about 15% and his bladder no longer works so his urine is diverted through a ureterostomy (a hole) in his side. So far he has been very lucky and hasn't needed dialysis, but he is currently being worked up for a transplant when he reaches ten kilos, which could be as early as the autumn. Despite all of this though, he is such a happy boy and always has a smile on his lovely face!

Henry has spent a lot of time in the Evelina (including his first Birthday!) and has now had eight surgeries. So far this year we have spent many more nights there than at home and they always do such a great job at looking after him, and me! He will be under their care until he reaches 18 and then he will move to Guy's Hospital where, my dad Frazer is also a kidney patient and has undergone two kidney transplants.

Henry's survival is totally due to the care, love and attention that he has received, and continues to receive at the Evelina. So as you can imagine the Guy's and St Thomas' Charity is very close to our hearts.

Please sponsor us so that we can say thank you to this fantastic hospital and we can help Henry, my Dad and many other people just like them.

Thank you,

Beccy, Godfrey and Henry

P.S. There is another way you can help...... please become an organ donor
