My story

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my combined fundraising page for two polar opposite events I am about to take part in. Although different, the goal of both is the same - to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer's Society.

The Reason - 10 years ago my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the frightening young age of 52. Since his diagnosis he has adopted a brave and at times humorous attitude with which to fight the illness.   The result has seen Dad achieve wedding speeches, 3 Great North Runs and status of top 'hide and seeker' amongst his grandchildren!! Naturally however his decline into the advanced stages is heartbreaking, particularly for my Mum who is his sole carer.  As an illness that ripples throughout the family The Alzheimer's Society has provided us with invaluable support during this continuing battle and it's time to give back.

The challenges - One thing Dad taught me on his diagnosis; do not be scared of a challenge. So ...

Challenge 1. Grade one-a-thon:  At the beginning of January I chose to learn an instrument that I have never played - TRUMPET! I have 8 weeks to learn it after just one lesson. On Sunday 1st March I will be taking my Grade One exam in the morning and perform a concert alongside 96 other novices in the evening!  Needless to say my practicing has created strained relations with the neighbours! - I HAVE COMPLETED THIS TASK AND PASSED WITH A MERIT!!

Challenge 2. The London Marathon: 26.2 miles of pure running joy around our capital on Sunday 26th April. With one marathon under my belt, the training is going well and the Trumpet playing is proving to be an added bonus for the breathing!

All and any pennies are really appreciated! If you're in London on 26th April and fancy lining the route, it would be great to see lots of friendly faces!
