Story

The year is 2012 and what an exciting year of sporting events we have to look forward too. The most talked about, hyped up and anticipated is certainly the Olympic and Paralympic games. Unfortunately, I don’t quite have the sort of credentials necessary to make our GB team this year so I’ve been looking elsewhere for an exciting new challenge. Last year I completed a London to Paris cycle with over 100 riders. In summary it was an undulating experience with a small fright, successfully raising well over £1,000 for MNDA.

On the 4 May 2012 the marathon RelayGB will commence from Buckingham Palace, a world record breaking relay attempt by running the most number of consecutive marathons. The current world record stands at 1,925 miles set by the Gillette Phenomenal Tour in Romania back in 2009. The RelayGB event will start and finish in London, hugging the British coastline including Wales and Scotland. This mammoth challenge will see 700 participants running day and night, through all conditions for almost 20 days straight. A truly unique event that intends to smash the world record by 1,000 miles. This event is passing through almost every coastal county in Britain so if you would like to participate then be quick and sign up via the website www.relaygb.org.

Given my northern roots, I’ve put my name down for a marathon in Lancashire and Yorkshire. At least I’ll have plenty of family and friends to stay with, right? Marathon allocations will be done nearer the time so I will confirm which stage or stages I will be taking part in at a later date.

The official charity of RelayGB is Brain Tumour UK. Brain Tumour UK improves the lives of people affected by brain tumours by providing practical and emotional support. They support world class scientific research to improve quality of life for suffers, treatments and ultimately defeating the disease.

I have no personal connection with the charity however, I’ve been inspired their great work and a colleague of mine (John Stanford) who ran 16 marathons in 12 months. A tremendous achievement which will be followed up by the RelayGB event.

I’m extremely excited about taking part in this event and raising money for another much deserving cause. Please support me in reaching my £1000 target in any way you can. All of this money will go to charity. Travel, accommodation and equipment expenses will come out of my own pocket if needed.I can’t express how much I appreciate your support, it really makes a difference.
