LOCAL SUPPORT, GLOBAL IMPACT
Working together to keep children safe.
This page is open for you to donate to the Retrak-GMP initiative if you don't have a specific volunteer who you want to support!
More info about the Retrak-GMP partnership on the Retrak website!
Please note the total raised here doesn't include the funds raised by the volunteers so far on their individual Just Giving pages!
In 2011 Greater Manchester Police are contining their partnership with Manchester based charity, Retrak, to raise funds for their projects in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Kampala, Uganda, working to get street children permanently off the streets.
Retrak's drop-in centre and needs-focused support programme in Ethiopia aims to empower and liberate children (specifically boys aged 7-18 years) to:
o
leave street life
o
become safely reintegrated into family, foster or ‘halfway’ hostel care units and into the wider community
o
access their rights denied to them whilst living on the streets. For example, education and health care, shelter, nutrition, a decent standard of living and protection from abuse and exploitation
o
achieve their potential through recreational and sporting pursuits, education, vocational and skills training.
Retrak's professionally trained field and outreach teams provide drop-in facilities and a package of support measures specifically tailored to the needs of each child.
24 GMP volunteers are coming to Ethiopia and Uganda in November to help at Retrak's projects, in particular to renovate Retrak's hostel and half way homes for the street children, please donate generously to support them and help raise funds for the project!!!
