David Livingstone’s Footsteps Challenge - Big Hearted
This is going to be one of the hardest years for fundraising for many charities here in and throughout the world and so I have decided to take part in the above which is for 10 days from 5 November 2009.
Big Hearted Scotland supports Alcohol Focus , Clic Sargent, Epilepsy , Momentum, Penumbra and Scottish Native Woods – all of whom do a heap of good work across . They also support the achievements of unsung heroes with the Big Hearted Awards.
The challenge is to raft and canoe down, I hope and not up, the – continue on a two day trek through the bush and lastly work in a local community project. Last year the team renovated a dormitory of a local school where most of the children had been orphaned because there parents had suffered AIDS.
have undertaken to pay my own expenses to do this trip but of course need support in raising around £2,700 which goes to Big Hearted Scotland.
In years gone by the funding for such challenges could be collected after the trip had taken place – not so in today’s climate; all the money requires to be paid by 1 September – just another aspect of the ‘credit crunch’.
With just two months to do this I have arranged a few fund raising events – a candle party, three fork suppers, a floral demonstration and of course the old favourite – tablet making (I guess I will need to make a mountain of tablet). However I thought that I would take this opportunity of asking you if you would like to pledge a few pounds to the ‘kitty’. Please take me off your Christmas card list this year and donate the cost to Big Hearted!
I realise that many different folks will be asking for support this year so if you cannot help – remember all who are attempting the challenge in your prayers.
Barbara
