Lands End to John O'Groats cycle · 30 July 2009

Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our  JustGiving page.

Why the Tandem Cycle ?

Neither of us are really sure where this little adventure was conceived.... possibly after a dram or two of Laphroig last new year..... suffice to say  a plan was hatched, and we are about to see it  through !   Cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats will  provide not only a personal challenge, but also a great chance to raise money for a worthy cause. ( As for the tandem bit.......... Rich's idea..... anything for an easy ride  -  nothing changes hey ! )

When and where ?

We are setting off from Lands End on Thursday 30th July, and plan to arrive in John O'Groats  9 days later, on Friday 7th August. The route we have chosen takes means we stop at  Tavistock, Langford, Ironbridge,Slaidburn, Gretna, Glasgow,Glencoe, Inverness. If you fancy coming along to cycle a leg,  to support, or simply to provide beer , massage oil & medals ...... do get in touch  ! ( ollie.pynn@rossdales.com, or richard.payne@rossdales.com )

Fundraising

The charity we have chosen is 'Pancreatic Cancer Research'.  Rich's mother , Anne, died of pancreatic cancer 5 years ago,  so  it seemed like a good opportunity to  support an excellent cause of direct personal  relevance. Although pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cancer in adults, it  is much less well known than breast  cancer, bowel cancer etc.... Sadly pancreatic cancer presents late, and kills early. The sucess of treatment  is still frustratingly poor, with a five year survival rate of approximately 3%.... if fact most people die within six months of diagnosis.  Hence further research into better diagnosis and treatment is of the utmost importance !
