My story

I am 61 years old, and currently Vicar of Ollerton and Boughton, in Nottinghamshire, on the edge of Sherwood Forest.
I have been ordained for over 22 years and before that, I worked for Nat West Bank for 20 years.
Two years ago last October, I was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer, and on 9 December 2009 my right kidney was removed.
But by then the cancer had spread to my pelvis, and it now requires continual treatment (Sutent).
Initially my outlook was not very good, but now things are more hopeful.
When I was discharged from hospital in December 2009, by way of answer to my question as to whether I would be all right, I was told that I hadn't come through all this without some purpose.
These words have stayed with me, and I want to use my experiences to help other people who may be coming to terms with cancer, and to raise the awareness along with helping to raise funds particularly for Kidney Cancer.
On Monday 20 February 2012, I am going on a round Britain Rail Trip for 7 days, and I seek sponsors for James Whale Kidney Cancer Charity.
Any way you are able to sponsor me would be much appreciated.
You can follow my progress on my blog: richard-goodhand.blogspot.com.
Thank you
