My eldest son David and I, together with two friends, Bill and Kate Lonergan, will be biking between Barrow in Furness and Sunderland from the 19th to the 22nd June, a distance of some 160 miles.  Unfortunately this route is far from flat and involves, amongst others, climbing 1700ft. over Tan Hill, and as we start with our wheels in the sea there is no way to avoid it.

We shall be riding to raise funds for the Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute, specifically for the Maurice Phillips Appeal.  Maurice was a great friend of ours who died of cancer after a 12 year battle.  The Maurice Phillips Fund provides financial support to give much needed help for selected Christie patients.

The Christie Hospital was in part founded by my Great Grandfather in 1914 when he started the Holt Radium Institute and has been supported by everyone connected with Joseph Holt ever since.
