Hello!
31st May 2009
This year I'm running a tiny bit of the Edinburgh Marathon for a charity called Blind in Business. They help young visually impaired students and graduates get good jobs they want to do.
Visit: www.blindinbusiness.org.uk
The main aim is to promote the work of Blind in Business in Scotland and to raise some extra funds for the charity. I will run 8 miles as part of a relay team of past candidates, friends and workers of BIB. I will need to do some running unfortunately.
How do I know Blind in Business?
Ah, well after University I started looking for work and found out about them from Google. They were holding a “Speed Recruitment” event where 30 visually impaired graduates and 30 employers were gathered together for 3 minute mock interviews. Quite a fun day! Some weeks later I learnt BIB were running an “internship” scheme so applied and after an interview they asked me to work with them for 3 months. In that time I saw what they did and the people they helped into work. They also helped me apply to organisations and through them I ended up in full time employment. I wouldn’t say they do miracles but if they helped me find work then they must be doing something right.
What will you get out of giving your hard earned cash?
Err….well my thanks and the gratitude of everyone at Blind in Business. Possibly some pictures of and the knowledge that I actually did some exercise for a change. Plus, if you pay tax you will get the opportunity of clawing some back from the taxman for charity.
