Sparks is a unique children's charity dedicated to funding research into the prevention, treatment and cure for conditions and illnesses affecting children, babies and expectant mothers. Sparks aim is for ALL babies to be born healthy and stay healthy. Since 1991, Sparks has committed over £18 million to fund research into conditions such as childhood cancer, childhood arthritis, meningitis, club foot, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and all the risks associated with premature birth. www.sparks.org.uk

My story

Dear all

On 1 November this year I am running the New YorkMarathonto raise money for Sparks Children’s Medical Research Charity and the British Heart Foundation – both brilliant charities.

My aim is to raise £5k which is a massively tall order particularly in this economic climate. But I’m confident that with the support of friends, family and colleagues, I can reach this fundraising target. It would make a difference to those charities and frankly make a huge difference to me knowing I have your backing.

Distance running isn’t something which comes naturally to me and even though I’ve given up the cigarettes (again!) every training run is a struggle. The marathon itself will be a huge personal challenge so please sponsor me either by sending me a cheque made out to British Heart Foundation or Sparks, or better still by visiting one of these two websites:
