Firstly, thanks for visiting my fundraising site.
This webpage has been set up to help raise funds for Meningitis UK following the tragic and untimely death of Hannah King, aged just sixteen, in December 2007. A caring, talented and beautiful girl, Hannah was taken too soon - victim of a disease that affects 2,300 people every year in the UK and can strike in less than four hours.
A terrible, almost incomprehensible loss for the Kings, their pain has been shared by all those who knew and loved Hannah. As her uncle so wonderfully put it:
"Are there more beautiful girls than Hannah? Probably, but I have not seen any.
Are there more charming people than Hannah? Possibly, but I have not met any.
Is there a greater loss than Hannah? Possibly, but I cannot imagine any."
It is to their eternal credit that the Kings have been so heavily involved in fundraising for the charity ever since. Now... Hannah was Emily's (my girlfirend) cousin, so I'm only too keen to get involved. For some reason, I decided the best way to do this was to run this year's New York marathon... Having completed London last year in 3:46, I'm (relatively!) confident of coming in under the 3 1/2 hour mark - feel free to make your donations incentive-based!
I know November's still a long way off, but it's never too early to start raising cash for such a worthy cause. So come on, do your bit and dig deep.
I should stress my campaign is working on a "charity challenge" basis, in so far as part of the money raised will be used by Meningitis UK to fund the cost of my trip. Needless to say, my fundraising target of £2500 well exceeds any projected expenses, and I'm confident we can all chip in and generate some serious cash for the charity.
