Deafness Research UK is a national charity which is committed to securing radical improvements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of deafness and other hearing impairments such as tinnitus.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am running the London Marathon on 26th April for Deafness Research.

I was inspired to run for Deafness Research because of Holly (pictured), the daughter of some close friends.

Holly is 5 years old and has been profoundly deaf since birth. A year ago Holly's parents took the brave decision for her to have a cochlea implant. Cochlea implants are one of the developments that have been possible because of the work of Deafness Research.

Cochlea impants bypass normal hearing through the ear. Through surgery, a  receiver and implanted electrodes are fixed inside the skull, these electrodes then electrically stimulate the auditory nerve with the sounds picked up by a small  processor worn behind the ear.

The implant has transformed Holly's hearing and more significantly her speech, allowing her to engage more fully with both her twin sister and her friends and classmates.

I am very grateful for any sponsorship you can give to support this cause.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Deafness Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
