In March/April this year I am competing in the Marathon des Sables, which is a 6 day, 150 mile footrace (equivalent to 5 1/2 regular marathons) across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. I will be covering the equivalent of 5 1/2 regular marathons in stages of roughly 16, 21, 24, 50, 26 and 13 miles.

I will be subjected to temperatures of up to 50C (120F) and have to carry all the food and equipment (clothes, medical kit, sleeping bag etc) that I require for the event. A tent is provided in the evenings and water is rationed at checkpoints.
