My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello, My name is Richard Nelson, I am 53 years old and was diagnosed with Parkinson's in April 2010. As you can imagine, this came as a complete shock to me. As I am a fit and healthy person I found this hard to accept at first. However, as a sportsman who has competed in many types of sports over the years, I soon started to look at this disease as another challenge. As a runner and cyclist I started to look at challenges that would raise the profile and the work of Parkinson's UK. So I came up with the following challenge. The cycle ride proposed is across France and will take 3 weeks and comprises 19 stages with 2 rest days, basically the same format of the Tour de France. The route is a unique one starting at the French - Belgium border on the English channel coast. The route runs along the Northern French coast to the city of Brest in Brittany, then continues down the Atlantic coast past Bordeaux and concludes with a finish on the French - Spanish border just south of Biarritz. The total mileage will be appoximately 1,400 miles.
The primary aim of this venture is to raise money to aid research into Parkinson's, and to raise awareness of the work of the charity. In addition I would welcome sponsorship to offset some off the costs of this project.
So please dig deep and donate now.

My charity
Parkinson’s UK
Charity Registration No. 258197 and Scotland SC037554
Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s. Because we’re here, no one has to face Parkinson’s alone. We bring people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families together via our network of local groups, our website and free confidential helpline. Specialist nurses, our supporters and staff provide information and training on every aspect of Parkinson’s. As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. We also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services. Our work is totally dependent on donations. Help us to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
