Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Get Kids Going! helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. They can then compete in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball etc. With your help, many could become Paralympic champions and world record holders.

Story

Well I did it - 3hrs 39 mins 39 secs!!!

I would just like to say a BIG thank you for everybody who sponsored me. I beat my target of £3,000 thanks to your generous donations.

Your money will enable "Get Kids Going" to help many disabled children to enjoy many different sports.

many thanks

Richard

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I have been persuaded, perhaps at a weak moment, i.e. down the pub after a few jars, to “compete”, or should I say “stagger”, in this year’s Flora London Marathon being held on 26th April 2009.

In order to make all the pain and effort worthwhile I am “running” on behalf of the UK Children’s charity called “Get Kids Going!” and you really appreciate your support.

In an attempt to get fit for the London Marathon I have been dragging my aging body through a sort of training schedule, comprising of two runs every weekend – usually one long one and one short one.  This is supplemented by two nights a week on a treadmill in the Fitness First Gym in Duesseldorf.  Not sure many "highly toned" athletes have a two country training regime!!

In addition I, along with two friends, have entered the following events:

22nd Feb  - Sussex Beacon Half Marathon              finished in 1:47:14

29th Feb  - Eastbourne Half Marathon                     finished in 1:43:52

15th Mar  - Fleet Half Marathon                                finished in 1:43:06

22nd Mar  - Maidstone 17.3 miles                             finished in 2:21:28

29th Mar  - Cranleigh 21.1 miles                                finished in 2:49:49

26th Apr  - London Marathon

So you can see I am taking this all rather too seriously.

I have two targets – one is to complete the London Marathon hopefully within 4 hours,  the second is to raise £3,000 for Get Kids Going!
