Ride for Ross
Thank you for visiting our Ride for Ross on line donations page.
With the generosity, support and contributions of many, many friends and the family of Barbara and Peter Rossitter we are delighted to have raised over £1,500 funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK (PCUK).
This would not have been possible without the thoughtfulness and help of all those who have contributed in some way, or made donations to commemorate the loss of a very popular friend, also known as Ross, who sadly passed away in November 2007 after contracting the disease.
In September 2004, Peter, together with a number of work colleagues from the Welsh Assembly Government and friends all took part in a sponsored cycle ride, from Brecon to Bedwas. The photo shows Ross looking very relaxed at the start of the ride. So, we decided to repeat the ride and are grateful to you for supporting us with your donation and messages of support.
On Sunday 22 June, the last day of National Bike Week, we achieved our goal which was to ride from Brecon along the Taff Cycle Trail to Cardiff, a journey of just over 52 miles, with only 1 tyre puncture, a few dozen tired legs but plenty of smiles and pleasant memories.
Our team of riders set off from the start of the Taff Cycle Trail, located at the Brecon Theatre. Dressed in our purple PCUK tee shirts we were enthusiastically cheered on by family and friends. The ride along the `Taff Cycle Trail` took us alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, before climbing through woodlands offering scenic views overlooking Tal y Bont reservoir. We then battled against strong winds on the Brecon mountainside before dropping down to Merthyr to reach Cyfartha Castle, where we stopped briefly to refuel. The ride continued along the winding and sometimes hazardous paths to Pontypridd Park, Castell Coch and our final destination, the Mochyn Du pub, Cardiff.
Everyone that started, completed the ride. Although we felt tired we were all very pleased to have successfully completed the ride. It was especially nice to receive a lovely, warm welcome at the end of the ride from Barbara, Ross` mum and dad as well as friends and family members who had patiently waited for us to return safely.
All of the money raised will be donated to PCUK to raise awareness of this disease. It will also help to fund research to help to diagnose and treat people suffering from pancreatic cancer.
All contributions are gratefully received.
best wishes and thank you,
On behalf of Barbara, friends and family of Ross.
