What a fantastic day for a bike ride.  39 cyclists set off from various villages around the county on Saturday to take on the enormous challenge of cycling to Brancaster Staithe on the North Norfolk coast in one day! The sky was clear and the weather balmy but sadly the wind was blowing off the coast and made for a strenuous ride. I am delighted to say the day went without a puncture or a fall and on average took them 7½ hours to complete. Quite a feat!! You can imagine we had a wonderful celebratory drink or two in the Jolly Sailors on arrival and made a total of nearly £20,000!!!

Thank you to everyone who took part and to everyone who sponsored the event.

Don't worry if you missed it this time, we have already set the date for next year, so book it in to your diary  2nd May 2009

The charity we have decided to support is Jemima Invites which was created when Jemima Sellicks was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in June last year.  Since then Jemima has received horrendous chemotherapy and suffered enormous side effects along the way and her treatement has a further 18 months to run.  She is an extremely brave little girl who has insisted on attending school and leading as normal a life as possible.  Her bright and smiling face has inspired us to raise as much money as we can to help swell the coffers for her fund.

Jemima's parents have met some extraordinary children, parents and medical staff over the past 9 months and as a consequence have become determined to make a contribution to the research currently being carried out into this disease.  Leicester is blessed with excellent researchers and the medical research unit at the University and in partnership with Hope Against Cancer, Jemima Invites have undertaken to fund a research fellowship in Jemima's name looking specifically into the diagnosis and treatment of ALL.

Have a look at Jemima's website to see how she is getting on:  www.jemimarose.co.uk or www.jemimasellicks.blogspot.com
