Forty members of RBS staff are travelling to Malawi during June 2008 working in partnership with Quest4Change to build a clinic with the local community. I'm one of them, and I'm going to shave off my ginger locks, and hoping you're going to pledge some money to make it all worthwhile!
What are we going to do in Malawi?
- Working with Joshua Orphan Care Centre based just outside of Blantyre in the south of the country the team will be working alongside villagers to construct a new clinic. Health workers provided by the District Health Office will then be able to visit and provide regular healthcare for over 1,000 local people in the Pen Sulo district.
Why?
- 75% of the population in Malawi live in rural areas and of these only 29% of the population have access to health services
- Life expectancy in 1995 was 45. It has now fallen to 37
- Infant mortality is the 15th highest in the world - 183 children under five in every 1000 will die
- In Malawi an estimated 400,000 children have been orphaned
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Quest Overseas Charitable Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
