Story

As the Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu once said, a journey of a thousand miles starts with just one step.  In this case, it’s a journey of 1,448 miles, finishing with the Ring Of Fire race around Anglesey at the end of August 2014.

The Ring Of Fire race is a three day run, involving running for 36, 67 and 32 miles on consecutive days.  135 miles in total.  However, the race is likely to be the ‘easy’ bit!

To be in with a chance of completing the race, the preceding 34 weeks from the start of 2014 requires a training plan which sacrifices just about every weekend on increasingly long training runs and squeezing in additional mileage during the week where possible.  In total, running around 1,313 miles on top of the 135 mile race, including the following ‘highlights’:

·      > 13 runs of 26 miles or longer

·      > Three 30 mile runs

·      > Two 40 mile runs

·      > One 51 mile run

·      > Three marathons in three consecutive days

The reckless runners undertaking this challenge are Stuart Kilshaw, Bob Richardson and Will Richardson.  Three 40-something year olds who probably should know better!

Such a crazy venture should achieve something more than just sore legs, blisters and chafed body parts best not mentioned here.  We’ve therefore decided to try to raise as much sponsorship as we can for Macmillan Nurses.

Just about everyone reading this will have been impacted either directly or indirectly by cancer.  The support and care provided by Macmillan nurses is invaluable.  Macmillan is funded almost entirely by sponsorship and donations, and we couldn’t think of a more worthy cause to try to help through our blood, sweat and, most likely, tears.

So, please do sponsor us, your support will be massively appreciated and will provide extra motivation to help us keep taking each of the steps required to run 1,448 miles.
