Story

Invest in ME (IiME) is organising a UK clinical treatment trial of rituximab by the best possible UK team for the job, led by Dr. Jo Cambridge at University College London (UCL), with world renowned expert Professor Jonathan Edwards in the role of Advisor to the charity. £50k raised by IiME supporters since June 2013 will fully fund the preliminary study on B cells.  This is a prerequisite to the trial and a useful study in its own right. We need to help IiME to raise a further £300k to fully fund the treatment trial. Rituximab is an immune modulating drug, which helped 67% of ME patients who took part in research in Norway to such a remarkable extent that the Norwegian Health Directorate apologised for the way ME patients have previously been treated. Even better results have now been found in a follow-up study, with higher doses giving a more prolonged effect. The Phase III trial of a larger number of patients can begin in Norway in January 2014, thanks to a successful fundraising campaign run by patients.  This work now needs to be validated in other countries and we need your donations and sponsorship to help raise funds for the UK/UCL trial. Donations go to a special IIME Rituximab Research Fund, separate from the general IIME Biomedical Research Fund, which is being used for other biomedical research projects. IiME is run by volunteers. There are no salaries and no funds will be used for charity admin.  All donations will be used in full to finance the Rituximab research. For text donations, text the code RTUX66 followed by the amount, to 70070.  We will keep you updated with progress and news about the fundraising and the trial.
