On 19th June 2010 we will be kayaking from Northampton to Peterbrough City Rowing Club. We are; Mick Child, Thomas Fitzgerald, Michael Prosperino and Dan Jenkin.

The journey is 57.4 miles long. There are 36 locks to negotiate and we will have to portage our kayak and equipment to the lower part of the river at each one. The total journey time will be approximately 18 1/2 hours meaning that the first 4 hours will be completed in the dark.

Mick and Thomas will paddle a tandem Perception Vista kayak which weighs 41kg empty.

Michael and Dan will paddle a Tandem Prijon Capri kayak weighing in at 30kg empty.

This will be completed in one go with short breaks of no longer than 20 minutes along the way.

The Vista Boat

Mick Child has been kayaking for 2-years and his longest river trip has been 22 miles last year. Tom Fitzgerald started kayaking on Saturday 20th March 2010, and at the time of writing his longest river trip has been 4-miles. We have some work to do between now and June!

The Capri Boat

Both Michael and Dan have kayaked before, although in recent years they are more used to competing in marathons, triathlons, ironman and long distance cycling events.

The Help for Heroes charity was launched in October 2007 and, with the backing and support of celebrities, including Jeremy and Francie Clarkson, the Royal Family, the media and countless ordinary decent people, it has been raising money since then.

Help for Heroes is strictly non-political. The money that is raised at Help for Heroes is used to support wounded Servicemen and women of every colour and creed and they strongly oppose any individual or political party who believes otherwise, and those who seek to use the charity’s name for their own political gain.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
