Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

On July 11th 2005 I cycled in the etape du Tour, a stage of the Tour de France professional cycle race. This involved cycling 177 km against the clock in under 10.5 hours. This includes cycling over 3 mountains, one of which required 16km of climbing. I completed the course in about 9 hours 20 minutes. I am extremely grateful to those who sponsored me.

There are three things I'll do better next year
1. Better gearing. 39-25 was a daft idea
2. Earlier start so that I don't get stuck behind those who walk over the steepest hills. Because of this at one point I was almost eliminated.
3. Drink more water. It was hotter on the day I did it than when the pro's did it. I finished the event very dehydrated.

Details of the course are at
http://www.letapedutour.com/2005/us/index.htm Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNIB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
