L'Etape Du Tour · 7 November 2005

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Part one of my triple challenge was completed on April 23rd 2006. I finished the London Marathon in 4:26:22. Up to 30km I was on track for under 4 hours, and the rain caused me a lot of pain in my muscles as I prefer to be warm. I didn't feel 100% fit either and was even considering deferring. Next year will be quicker!

On July 10th 2006 I was eliminated from the Etape du Tour from Gap to Alpe D'Huez, a distance of 191km. The weather was simply too hot and I was already dehydrating on the Col D'Izoard, despite drinking over 3 litres of water in 5 hours. I was allowed to ride from the Col Du Lauteret to Bourg D'Oisans without a number, so I still completed most of the route. I rode up Alpe D'Huez on July 13th 2006 after recovering. Details of the route are at http://www.letapedutour.com/2006/us.

On October 1st 2006 I completed the Great North Run (GNR) in 1:41:33. This might be my fastest ever time, although my previous best twenty years ago was done without chip timing. I've taken off almost 13 minutes last years time, so at this rate of improvement I'll win the 2009 event!

I hope to raise £2000 for RNIB. Last year I raised £1100 (see http://justgiving.com/rnibetape2005). More about my triple challenge is at http://www.cyclosport.co.uk/article.aspx?id=111.

Note to media - if you print any articles or broadcast any news items about my fundraising efforts I request a £50 donation (please use the comment section to name your organisation) and that you quote the address http://justgiving.com/rnibetape as the site at which donations can be made. If you do not quote the site I will make a formal complaint to the relevant authorities. Thank you.

STOP PRESS - On July 8th this year I was invited to ride in the first stage of the Tour de France. This was as a result of riding in the London to Paris charity event for Schools of Cambodia. More information here

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNIB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
