Camp Leatherneck USMC Marathon · 25 October 2009

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans helps all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Story

Thank you all very much for your generous sponsorship.  I finished the Camp Leatherneck marathon in a shade (3 mins) over 3 1/2 hours and am now in some pain!  The marathon was made up of 2 laps of the US and British compounds adn the airhead.  The first lap was brilliant - a great temperature and not too dusty, the second was less brilliant and after the 22nd mile it was much less fun.  There was  long dusty stretch of 2 or so miles running on a straight desert road alongside the runway which was pretty soul destroying but it was really inspiring to know that it was all going to a good cause.

In true American fashion there was plenty of encouragement from the sidelines and a great atmosphere.  The medal at the end of it (not for winning, sadly) is huge and very ostentatious.  There was even a role of honour at the end of the race and I'm happy to report that I managed to beat Oprah Winfrey.

Thanks again and hope to chat soon,

Rob.
