I have decided to run the Bath Half Marathon 2010 with my dad in aid of Help for Heroes. It is a cause close to my heart due to my chosen career path into the military as I was lucky enough to receive an Army scholarship in November 2009. As I am sure you will agree the news of British soldier fatalities is sadly becoming an ever increasing occurrence. For those soldiers who are lucky enough to escape death are often left with life-changing injuries. Help for Heroes is charity whose aim is to reduce the impact of these injuries to the soldier and rehabilitate them. They are hugely successful already in helping all servicemen but money is still needed to continue and improve their work.
'We are strictly non political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.'
For a little more incentive to donate I will be running the 13 miles in full British Army kit, including boots and (full) rucksack!
