Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 27th July 2013 I will be Abseiling down the National Lift Tower in Northampton. The tower stands 127 metres high and I have to confess I'm not a massive fan of heights!! ...but this is a fear I'd like to confront, especially if it helps to raise money for a worthy cause!
Recently the Cynthia Spencer Hospice gave our close family friend a comfortable and dignified atmosphere to spend her final days. I dearly hope no-one reading this suffers such a horrible illness in the same way but unfortunately there are many people who do and depend on this Hospice to help them through such times... They can describe their own work better than I can so here is what they do....
About Cynthia Spencer Hospice
We provide hospice and palliative care services for south Northamptonshire whilst Cransley Hospice provides similar services for north Northamptonshire.
Northamptonshire Teaching Primary Care Trust manages Cynthia Spencer Hospice which is part of the NHS. The Hospice currently serves a population in excess of 300,000 people and is a purpose-built 20-bedded unit, designed to the highest standards for patient care.
The team of specialist doctors, nurses and therapists based at the Hospice provide a comprehensive service for mainly cancer patients, and their families, for whom cure may no longer be possible. The Hospice is also the base for the community Macmillan nurses, the Hospice@Home team, therapists and many other specialists who are referred to as the multi disciplinary team. Refer to the Who's Who section for more information.
The hospice is mainly funded by the NHS. However, this year, to maintain our exceptional quality of care, we have to raise an extra £704,000 through charitable donations and fund raising activities. Money raised this way is used to employ staff for the benefit of patients and to provide equipment and comforts to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
Our care is focused on the ‘whole person’ incorporating the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients. We ensure that the patient’s quality of life is maintained by working in partnership with family and carers. Our primary concern is to respect our patient’s dignity and choice in a friendly and supportive environment.
