I've decided to embark on a cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End. The total distance is over 900miles and the plan is to complete it in 9 days or less! Over a 100miles a day! I'm exhausted just thinking about it now.
I'm what can be described as a non avid cyclist, but one who is extremely keen to embark on a fund raising challenge to raise funds for the St Davids Foundation Hospice Care. I'm now in the process of a major fitness drive, as just a 40mile ride seems to persuade my legs that they should move to another country! I will be undertaking various running and cycling mini challenges throughout the year leading upto the John O'Groats to Lands End bike ride in late August 2009 from the 15th taking approx 10days.
The reason i have chosen to do this and raise money for the St David's Foundation Hospice Care, is due to their invaluable support and care for my mother inlaw Anne Swain, who sadly passed away on the 5th of December 2008 after a fight with Ovarian Cancer. Because of the care they provided, Anne was able to be at home surrounded by everything that was important to her and everyone she loved. Each year St Davids Foundation provides hospice care to over 2600 people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses, this care costs in excess of £4.6 million each year.
Also i must make a special mention that Anne's husband Mike and son Dave will be driving the entire distance as my support team (person!) with a whole plethora of stuff...kitchen sink etc. I must point out there not aware that we will be sleeping in one tent and living off baked beans for nine days!
