Story
One day in our window 6th - 12th September 2019 a team of us from London's Air Ambulance will be attempting to swim the English Channel.
Indeed we may have lost our minds - cold water, a long distance, the world's busiest shipping lane and oodles of jellyfish, but that won't stop us! There will be two pilot boats accompanying the two teams with 6 swimmers on each - we will swim for one hour then 5hrs off (then repeat) until we make it to France!!! At the shortest point the crossing is 21miles but it is pretty fair to say that we will end up swimming a lot further given the tides etc. So I am looking at 3 hours swimming over the course of the day. Unfortunately wetsuits are frowned upon in the channel, so Budgy Smugglers only.....
I am very lucky to work as a Consultant in Pre-Hospital care as part of a doctor paramedic team, that brings advanced hospital level care to the most seriously injured patients in London within minutes of their injury occurring. This team literally saves lives on a daily basis.
As a doctor I am employed by Bart's Health NHS Trust and the paramedics, by the London Ambulance Service. However, the pilots, fire crew, helipad team and all the infrastructure such as the two helicopters, rapid response cars along with all the running costs are paid for by London's Air Ambulance which is a charity. Without the work of this charity, the service would not exist. Therefore, your donations will ensure that this team is able to continue to provide world leading, innovative and effective pre-hospital care.
Thank you!
