The Namibia Race 2009 starts on the 17th May and I will be on the start line; the 2nd time in 6 months for an ultra-marathon race in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK in my brother's memory.  7 days and 255km later I will cross the finish line…no doubt without my toenails, a stone or two and probably my much loved guns!

The race consists of 255kms over 6 stages, but will also include river crossings with water over waist high as well as sand storms and climbs of over 700m...minor distractions in the 6 marathon race! Oh, and temperatures at this time of year fall below zero at night and are over 30 degrees in the day...awesome! To cap this all off, we carry all our gear (clothing, food, sleeping bag etc) for the week, which weighs in around 12kgs...

As for the last race, I am raising money in memory of my brother who was a very special person. Nick died of cancer on the 18th August 2006, aged 31. Nick was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in May that year. This particular type of cancer is still quite rare and difficult to treat but research is ongoing.

I will be running for Cancer Research UK (reg. charity no. 1089464), which is a charity very close to my heart. I first started supporting this fantastic organisation in December 1997 when my mother died of this increasingly prevalent and cruel disease.

Please help support Cancer Research UK, by being as generous as you can and sponsoring me.

Thank you in advance for your kind support.

Rob
