There are 1 million people in the who suffer from psoriasis. 40,000 new cases of skin cancer are reported each year, 20% of all children have eczema. The number of people suffering from skin disease grows each day.
The dermatological community acknowledges the significance of these figures and it is reflected by the large number of requests the British Skin Foundation receives for project funding.
To stem the growth of skin disease in the we need to explore the causes, helping us produce effective treatments and cures.

200 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every day in the , and melanoma is rising faster than any other type of deadly cancer. In as many as 4 out of 5 cases, skin cancer is a preventable disease.

Thats one of the reasons for doing the challenge, odds on a some point in your life you will have a problem with your skin.   If you want to know more about the work of the charity then please go to   http://www.britishskinfoundation.org.uk/ for more details.

Im not a very good cyclist, the longest day ride I have completed is just over 50 miles and the thought of completing over 300 miles in 4 days is a little daunting. All my previous rides have been completed on a bike with a saddle like an armchair, this one is being done on my nice shiny new road bike, which has a saddle akin to a razor blade!  After a few hundred miles it is beggining to feel more comfortable, which cannot be said for other parts of my body.  I have now come to the conclusion that something always has to hurt.

I would like to think there is just enough training time for the event, I came into the project very late with only 7 weeks to go , so everything is being done in a bit of a rush including the fundraising!

I am really looking forward to taking on the challenge, the waistline might appreciate it too!

Keep visiting as I will post more updates as time goes on.
