I've been supporting Spinal Research for a number of years since a friend of mine was paralysed when a scrum went down playing rugby.  Entirely voluntarily funded, they're making amazing progress towards "curing the incurable" and moving into clinical trials on spinal cord repair which can go some way to reversing paralysis.
