Virgin London Marathon 2011 · 17 April 2011 ·

Glencraft is an Aberdeen charity established to provide secure employment and training for blind, partially sighted and disabled people from the local area. We have a proud history and are looking to raise £500,000 to relocate our factory and provide a secure future for the organisation.

Story

This is it - the "Trainers in the Thames Tour". On April 17th 2011 I will be jogging and crawling round the full 26 miles 385 yards of the London Marathon for the LAST TIME! Those of you who know me will realise that I am not a "natural build" for marathon-running and according to the British Medical Association I am clinically obese but what do they know?

I am running to raise funds for Glencraft - the Royal Aberdeen Workshops for the Blind and Disabled. Glencraft closed in November 2009 but, along with help from many others, we were able to get it reopened in April 2010. It needs a little help to make it truly sustainable.

Any money I raise will be used to provide sales support for Glancraft so they can grow their order book and become viable as a stand-alone business.

Most of the team at Glancraft are disabled yet benefit hugely from the dignity and purpose that work provides. Failure of places like Glencraft cannot be an option for any caring society.

Go on, dig deep - make me grimace and squirm at Mile 22 when I face that "I can't go on" argument with myself. Thank you for your support.
