In memory of Robert Brown

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, which is linked to a major concert I am promoting in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK at Cadogan Hall in London on 24th May 2012.

In the early hours of November 6 2008, my brother Robert died of pancreatic cancer, aged just 54, precisely 13 weeks after diagnosis. Looking back, our experience was very short, very intense and horribly shocking. We have since learned that less than 3% of people diagnosed with the disease live for 5 years - a horrendous statistic.

Two years ago I promoted a concert at Cadogan Hall in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK, and in memory of Robert, and we raised over £37,000. It was a wonderful night and a fine tribute to a much-loved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

We return to Cadogan Hall for a further concert in his name, because the fight against this disease is not something that will be won on one night, or whilst we are all most obviously grieving for him. The money we raised made a significant contribution to research into earlier diagnosis, which is the key issue, but we need to raise much more. Right now, diagnosis is usually a death sentence, and this will only change if we all make a huge effort to help them find ways to catch it earlier.

The next concert features my friends Stephen Layton, Michael Collins, the City of London Sinfonia and the Holst Singers. Detailed information is available at http://www.cadoganhall.com/event/charity-gala-concert-with-the-city-of-london-sinfo/

Many people have already supported our efforts, but I make no apology for raising this issue again. If we want to avoid further tragedies, we need to do something now. Please do anything you can to support this wonderful charity and to fight this hideous disease. If our efforts save one life, and help one family, it is more than worth it - I just wish someone could have helped my poor brother.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
