Story
In 2005 I was told by my doctors that the brain tumour I had known of since 8 had started to grow, it needed to be removed. The operation left me completely paralysed down one side of my body and my memory was near non-existent. I recovered at a speed that took the doctors by suprise and 18 months later my consultant put me forward for the most influencial 4 weeks of my life.
I was nominated and selected from 16,000 possible applicants to take part as one of 24 young persons in JoLt's expedition to South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho. During a conversation last October, whilst trekking the Jordanian desert in aid of Parkinson's UK, I realised the impact that trip had on my life. It has taken a while for me to see the power those four weeks held.
Now, thanks to Jolt, I have made friends for life, developed a brilliant team ethos, but most importantly I was inspired and empowered to achieve. I want to give someone else that Journey of a Lifetime, I want another young person to go to the far reaches of the globe with 23 peers and learn so much about themselves.
The cost of sending someone on such a magnificent experience costs the charity roughly £6000 per person. I'm aiming to contribute to that by raising £2500, but every pound makes the difference to the charity's work.
