Atacama Desert (30 Mar - 5th Apr) The 2008 Atacama Crossing was a 250km, seven day, self supported footrace across the Atacama desert in Chile. The race started at 11,000ft and remained one mile above sea-level for the duration. Competitors ran the equivalent of a marathon a day for the first 4 days, then 72km on day 5 and finished with a 10km run on the final day. The course traversed razor sharp salt-flats, followed slot canyons and led competitors over sand dunes. It is one of the '4 Deserts' , a series organised by racingtheplanet (Gobi, Atacama, Sahara and Antarctica) and Rob's second race, having placed 3rd in Gobi March in 2006.
