Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am running the London Marathon 2009 to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of Michael Benjamin Gerrard Roach.
Mikey was born in March 2003 a beautiful, cheeky and healthy baby boy who brought a lot of pleasure to his family and their friends. In November 2003 Mikey became ill with a temperature and was taken into hospital and although the doctors and nurses at both Warrington General and Alder Hey Childrens Hospital worked what miracles that they could, and Mikey fought like the strong little lad that he was, unfortunately Mikey died peacefully in the arms of his mummy and daddy. We later found out that Mikey died from Pneumoccocal Septicaemia a violent strain of Meningitis, it turns out that babies and infants do not show the symptoms of meningitis until the infection is already widespread, Mikey did not get the characteristic meningitis rash until he was already gravely ill in the intensive care unit. We are running to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation to help find a cure and raise awareness to this devastating illness so that nobody has to go through this, as the impact on family, friends, neighbours and colleagues is devastating.
This picture shows Mikey and his personality more than any other, the boy with the big blue eyes. Love you Mikey, daddy and his friends are doing this for you.
