Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Another one of our group (Clive Elphick) has raised £400 on his web page

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please sponsor us and help us fund a Parkinson Disease Society Community Support Worker in Rochdale.

Original message:-

"Hi there,

A group of 6 of us, John Whittaker, Clive Elphick, Barry Dean, Paul Whittaker, Mauro Franzoni and myself are trekking half way across Corsica in June, following part of the route of the famous GR20 walk, and camping and sleeping in mountain refuges along the way . With our creaking bones it should be great fun (did I say fun?).

As part of the challenge we want to raise money for a Parkinson Disease Society Community Support Worker in Rochdale. SInce being diagnosed approx 20 months ago I have discovered that this is an illness which requires somebody to be there for you to answer the hundreds of questions that spring to mind after the news hits you.

The Parkinsons Disease Society offers support through its website , information leaflets, magazines and the tremendous "Helpline" but a community support worker can offer practical and emotional support on a one to one basis .

Branches are able to offer support at local level and the Rochdale Branch is raising funds for a Parkinsons Disease Community Support Worker.

In order to be considered for a Community Support Worker the Rochdale branch must raise approx £20,000. The branch has undertaken tremendous work so far and has raised £11,000 but another £9,000 is needed before the application can be considered.

Our aim is to help bridge the gap. A support worker is badly needed - this illness causes a lot of distress and anxiety.  .

SO GIVE US A TARGET TO SPUR US ON TO FINISH THE TREK  - PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY - IT'S GOING TO A GOOD CAUSE

Best wishes

Alastair Scott
