Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Rocket-Ride 2011 JustGiving page.
Steve "Rocket" Holmes made friends very easily, and almost without exception retained those friendships throughout his life. He brought communities together without even trying and was able to tell stories which captivated whoever was listening. In 1984 Steve and his new bride Lesley moved from Durham to start a new life in Sandbach, Cheshire. Since then they and their family have bridged these two locations and have brought many people together, through rugby tours, golf trips, and trips to the races.
Lesley and the children have set themselves the ambition of raising £15000 in memory of Steve to support the fabulous work done at the famous Christie Hospital in Manchester. In realising this amount Steve will be remembered in perpetuity by placing a gold leaf in his name on the Tree of Hope in the garden of the Christie Cancer Centre.
The Rocket Ride will repeat Lesley and Steve's journey from Durham to Sandbach - but this time by bicycle. A team of 8 riders from Sandbach Rugby Club will attempt to ride over 180 miles in under 24 hours over the weekend of 18th-19th June. We'll use this page to keep you updated on our training progress and hopefully during the event you'll be able to track our progress via Twitter.
