SOS Children's Villages UK offers unsupported children worldwide the chance to grow up in a safe and nurturing family environment with education and healthcare. We work to reduce family breakdown and child abandonment and protect at-risk children affected by conflict and disaster.

Story

We call ourselves the Mountain Goats and will be taking part in a 7 day multi-stage mountain bike race crossing the Canadian Rockies in August 2008. The race will push every participant to their physical and mental limits but promises to offer spectacular scenery for all the riders in the majestic area of British Columbia, Canada. See further details of the race on the official race website www.transrockies.com.

The Mountain Goats team want to make use of our Transrockies experience to raise not just sponsorship but awareness of the good work being carried out by our nominated charity, SOS Children's villages, in countries like Africa and especially Sudan. Sudan being in the news consistently for all the wrong reasons!!

We would like to focus in on the topic of Children being taken away from their families at a very young age and made to fight some war for some crazy cause!! We believe every child has the right to be just that...a child!!! SOS is directly involved with child soldier relief programmes in Sudan and this is the area where we would like to make some sort of contribution.

We will update our blog site with further information on the current situation in Sudan on a regular basis. The blog can be visited at http://transrockies08.blogspot.com/

In the mean time, please get behind this initiative and be assured that any donations will be going where it is really needed and can actually mean something in somebody's life!!

Many thanks for your support!!!
