Story
Back in 2006 I took part in a week's off road mountain bike ride in Kenya to raise money for New Ways Charity specifically for the projects it supports in Kenya and Latin America.
New Ways is a UK registered charity that has since 1994, been working to support health, education, water and agricultural development projects in Africa, predominantly in Turkana for mainly very young children and young adults.
On the last day of the trip I flew to Turkana in Northern Kenya, to see first hand the charity's work and to appreciate just how important this was in helping save lives. The memory of seeing young children trying to survive in the poorest conditions in Kenya has never left me and has made me want to do something again.......this time I've decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro for New Ways at the end of October.
Mt Kilimanjaro is 5895m in height and climbing it over the course of seven days will take me through tropical to artic climates! We will be camping each night and not doing a Bear Grylls of staying in hotels, only stopping to have a rest day ahead of the final accent!
Obviously this has given me the huge opportunity of being able to upgrade all my outdoor gear including gadgets! But at the same time I appreciate that this is quite a challenge and I'm now giving up beer (especially strong Japanese lager!), going on a diet and beginning to get training so I can complete this successfully.
I'd be grateful for any donation you can make.....donating through Just Giving is quick and also the most efficient way to sponsor me: New Ways gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, there's an additional 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, added to your donation.
In addition, Pioneer Investments have agreed to match all funding raised up to €1500. Every pound helps ...a £25 donation, raises £7 in Gift Aid and supplements and is also matched by Pioneer....totalling £57 for New Ways.
Thanks
Roger
