Story
Hello and thanks for coming to my fundraising page. Although I vowed never to do
another marathon after our excruciatingly painful experience in Paris 2009 and LA in 2008, for
whatever reason my neighbour Martin Chick and I have decided to do it again,
this time in Berlin on 26th September. I think it is the combination
of giving something back as well as the opportunity to curtail the ever
expanding waistline that has such resonance when it comes to these events. It
certainly has nothing to do with any pleasure because I can assure you, running
marathons is hard work.
As with Paris, I am raising money on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and it is terrible to see how it robs a person of their identity and the impact this has on close family. It is hard to describe the feelings that come when you see a loved one gradually fade away, knowing that there is little chance of recovery. It is hard to bear. So the more we can do to conquer this terrible affliction the better. Dementia in its various guises now impacts an alarming number of people, over 700,000 currently with more than 1 million sufferers forecast by 2025 so the more we can do to combat it now the better for everyone.
