Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Our Rory was a devoted Toon fan and keen golfer. He was the picture of health until his tragic death on 16th December 2008, just 5 days before his 24th birthday. He suffered an injury from a rare brain condition called arteriovenous malformation (AVM). The staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Newcastle General Hospital cared for him with total dedication. Although Rory was very strong and fought courageously for his life for two weeks, the brain injury he had sustained proved too catastrophic.
The Blaydon Races anthem is belted out by many a Geordie but it would be hard to beat Rory’s own rendition. He was so passionate about singing for the Toon, he even had the phrase “Sing 2 Win” on the back of his shirt.
We will be running the 2009 Blaydon Race with pride to raise money for the Intensive Care Unit.
All the lads and lasses taking part are Rory’s Mam Lesley, sister Kaye and friends Joanne Bradley and Cameron Sim.
A lot of money has already been raised for the unit through a collection at Rory’s funeral but further funding is always welcome and put to good use, including the purchase of specialist equipment
