We're Leigh Beazley & Collette Pridmore. We are parents of just two of the many children that are patients on Rose Ward at The Royal Brompton Hospital. We are going to tell you about two special children with very different conditions & one fantastic cause!
On the 6th September a team of 20 ladies competed The adidas 5k Women's Challenge in Hyde Park, London. Our aim is to raise funds for visual/audio entertainment equipment so that all children who are in segregation, isolation or just too poorly to get out of bed can be kept entertained during long stays on a ward away from family life.
Jacob's story Jacob has a very rare condition called Idiopathic Pulmonary Haemosiderosis and he bleeds into his lungs, this can happen any time & can range from minor bleeds to major haemorrhages. There is no cure for Jacob & the only way to ensure this condition does not take his life is close & careful monitoring
Georgia's story Georgia has Cystic Fibrosis the most common inherited life limiting; life threatening disease in the U.K. This affects the lungs and digestive system. Georgia has a relentless routine of medicines, physiotherapy, nebulisers & regular intravenous antibiotics. There is no cure for c.f.
The Brompton offer our families major support in the care for Jacob & Georgia, and both children have regular admissions into hospital. We as parents cannot speak highly enough of what they do! Rose Ward is the only paediatric ward within The Royal Brompton Hospital that gives 1st class specialised care to children with severe cardiac & respiratory conditions and diseases.
NHS resources only stretch so far. The little extras come from people like you. The grateful families and friends of the patients.....Wouldn't you like to give something back?
