Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 25th October I will be running The Great South Run (10 miles around Portsmouth) in aid of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice in memory of my Mother, Stella Stynes. Mum would have been 77 on the 25th October. She was a supporter of the hospice at the coffee mornings and worked for the League of Friends at the George Eliot Hospital, however you never think you will be in need of their support yourself.
After Mum passed away on Easter Sunday, I felt that I too would like to give something back to the hospice who were so wonderful and helpful to us. I also felt that I would like a project or a goal to work towards over the summer; when I saw that the run was on Mum's birthday I knew I had to sign up. I also managed to convince a school friend of mine, Joanne Winterbottom, to join me. I have done a few runs before, but nothing since having Carys over a year ago and I'm not getting any younger!
The Mary Ann Evans Hospice strives to enhance the quality of life of people who have a life limiting illness, by offering physical, emotional, social and spiritual support to them, their families and those caring for them throughout the palliative stages of their disease.
Hospices cared for 250,000 patients last year, either in a bedded hospice, day care unit or in their own homes, Hospice at Home. This care also extends to families and loved ones, which means that every year, hospice care touches the lives of millions of people throughout the UK.
- Hospice care is open to all and provided completely free of charge, but it costs approximately £400 million per year just to keep running. Approximately two thirds of the running costs must be raised from voluntary donations making hospice care the largest fundraising cause in the UK.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
