Story

BBSI was founded by my amazing mother-in-law after she visited Kibera slums in Kenya in 2002.

Her aim was to build an orphanage, in a country she knew little about, and provide a loving home environment for the children she had seen living on the streets.

Florence House is now home to 22 wonderful children ranging in age from 6 months to 13 years. The older children attend school and show great pride in their academic achievements. They have grown in confidence and enjoy sharing high aspirations for their future.

What makes BBSI so very special is, remarkably, my mother-in-law and her husband are now 70 and 82 respectively, and actively run the charity with just a handful of volunteers. This means, unlike other charities, all the money donated goes directly to the needs of the children.

BBSI's only source of funding comes from donations and fundraising events which brings me to the Brighton Marathon (gulp!) I shall be joined by Jeanie Fraser and Becky Jennings who have sacrificed their Saturday morning lie-ins and tolerated my ongoing toenail catastrophes to endure the 26.2 miles so please dig deep and donate now. Every donation, big or small, really does make a difference.
