Rosie McNamara is raising money for Prevent Breast Cancer

Story
On St Patrick’s Day (March 17th) 2011, David & Rosie McNamara, who live in the Lake District, will leave Dublin to begin their 130 mile “Walk Across Ireland” to raise awareness and funds for The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal.
The reason for taking on this challenge is because of their belief “You must keep strong if you want to win”.
David was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 59. He understood that men could get breast cancer and that there were hereditary genes in families. David’s mother died of breast cancer at the age of 43, but his attitude, like many others was ‘it won’t happen to me’.
Following the shock of the diagnosis, David and his wife Rosie, realised this ordeal affected more than just themselves, did their daughters carry the gene, did David’s brothers carry the gene?
The family developed a fierce resolution that by keeping strong together they would get through their problems, which has resulted in them all becoming closer and more appreciative of each other. David commented “My mother would be proud of us all and as Rosie and I love walking challenges we have a new adventure! Dublin Bay to Galway Bay is indeed a beautiful route and Rosie’s family are actually from County Galway!”
David had a double mastectomy in 2007 and has since been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal is based in Manchester and raises awareness and funds for research to go ahead for the PREDICTION and PREVENTION of breast cancer. Research projects are headed by three internationally renowned professors: Evans, Howell and Bundred. At present 1 in 10 women and 1 in 1000 men will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
