My Story
11 years ago, my Grandad was diagnosed with bowel cancer, just over a year after his retirement.
Despite a valiant decade fighting the illness, he passed away last October, at home. I say at home, because without the help and support provided from Macmillan and their nurses, my grandad would have spent his last months in a hospital, or hospice.
MacMillan provided him with his preferred option, and that was to be at home.
Not only did they do this for him, Macmillan also provided nurses and carers to visit him on a daily basis, allowing my gran to have someone to talk with, and someone to provide him with personal care. This home care was important to the family and allowed us to build up a rapport with the carers. So much so, that six carers attended the funeral.
The growing of a beard may seem insignificant, but from the 13th of October, which will be the 1st year anniversary of my grandad's passing, I will be going unshaven for a whole year in order to raise money for this wonderful charity who gave us so much.
Please feel free to give as much, or as little as you like.
Throughout the next year, I will likely be doing other events that I will link into this page.
This is likely to include the BUPA Great Manchester Run in May 2013.
