In a moment of complete madness last year, I volunteered to run the 26.2 miles from Greenwich to St James Park in April 2009. I am now starting to realise exactly what  a daunting challenge I have signed up for. Giving up now is not an option and the thought of a substantial amount of nice cold beers at the finish will hopefully keep me going!! 

I have chosen to run for HemiHelp, as this is a charity very close to my heart. My son Jake, who is now 2 years old, suffers from a condition called Hemiplegia. 

Hemiplegia is a condition similar to cerebral palsy which affects one side of the body - the results are like those of a stroke. HemiHelp works to provide information and support to children and young people with hemiplegia and their families, and professionals who work with them.

This conditiion gives Jake limited mobility down the right hand side of his body.  Thankfully Jake has inherited the willpower and determination required to succeed and is such a happy little boy.  He is undergoing physio to help him and we are confident that Jake will be able to live a normal and fullfilled life.

26th April 2009 - I am pleased to announce that I completed the marathon in 4 hours 13 minutes.

It was an amazing experience and the atmosphere with the crowd and fellow runners made it a lot easier to deal with.

The last 3/4 miles were hard but easy to dig in as not far too go.
